Intro Paragraph It must capture the attention of your target audience and grab their interest. Think of this as your restatement to the prompt. The length varies depending on the length of the paper. For this paper, it should be around ten sentences long.
4
Intro Paragraph It is made up of three components.
First Component (7-10 sentences): You could start with an ANECDOTE (a short story). This cannot be one of the ones you’ve already written about. You could start with an INTERESTING FACT OR STATISTIC that you found during your research. You could start with an INTERESTING OR RELEVANT QUOTE that you found during your research. You could start by PRESENTING A PROBLEM and then PROPOSING A SOLUTION. You could start by using a METAPHOR. This can be tricky, but it can be extremely powerful. Second Component (2-4 sentences): Counter Claim-why they won’t quit (excuses) Third Component (1 sentence only): Thesis – the whole point of your paper

Concluding Paragraph Finally, you need a concluding paragraph. This should be between seven and ten sentences. It should be a summary of the main points and include a stirring call for action or reference to something from the introduction. You also need to restate your thesis from your introduction somewhere in the paragraph.
