caused many problems later on that created WWII
humiliate Germany (war-guilt clause)
impossible for Germany to pay back debt b/c loss of territory
Russia loses more land than Germany

7. American Response to Treaty
Many are not happy
too harsh on Germany
doesn’t solve any problems
Senate does not ratify the treaty
Create separate treaty w/ Germany
Never becomes member of League of Nations
