It must be correct. You only have 5 minutes. Everyone must be seated and raise their hand when it is complete. No copying answers. Explain to each other. Reward: 5 points on your lab Planner: Watershed Lab

Bell work – 5 minutes Describe the circumstances that led to the contamination of the groundwater in Goodyear, AZ. Planner: Watershed Lab

3 I can model and describe a watershed.
Learning target I can model and describe a watershed. Today I am… Modeling how a watershed functions. So that I’ll be able to… understand how runoff impacts our water quality. I’ll know I’ve got it when… I can model a functioning watershed and write a post-lab conclusion.

4 Today’s lab – Modeling a watershed

5 What we already know…. The Water Cycle summarizes the
role that water plays in our environment.

6 Background Information
What is a watershed? A watershed is all of the land that drains runoff (from precipitation) into a body of water.

7 Background Information What is a watershed?
A watershed is defined by highpoints and ridgelines that descend into lower elevations and stream valleys. A watershed carries water "shed" from the land after rain falls and snow melts.

8 Where does our water come from?

9 Modeling a watershed You will work with one table partner to create a model of a watershed. Each person is required to submit a lab worksheet. We will walk through a few steps together and then you will guide yourselves.

10 Answer pre-lab questions (1-3) Make your hypothesis

11 Set up experiment 1. Crumple the paper (medium) 2
Set up experiment 1. Crumple the paper (medium) 2. Draw lines from the high points the low points (at least 5)
