1 Warm-Up #40 Monday, 1/11/2016 Use both substitution and elimination method to solve the systems of equation for x – 9y = -13 2x + y = -7

2 Homework Application of Systems of Equations worksheet

3 Real Life Application for Systems of Equations

4 There are 3 statements to help you create an equation:
Number statement (quantity that you can count) Value statement (worth) Rate of Change statement

5 Number Statement x + y = 100 fruits Where x represents that total number of bananas and y represents the total number of oranges

6 Value statement 0.50x y = 36 Where x represents the total number of bananas and y represents the total number of oranges 1.50 represents $0.50 per banana 1.75 represents $0.75 per orange * Value statement will always have coefficients*

7 Rate of Change Statement
In y = mx + b, where m is the rate and b is the starting value . You can set rate of change equal to each other to solve for x. plug back what you know for the x value to solve for the y Example: y = 3x + 6 and y = 6x + 1 3x + 6 = 6x + 1
