So we need to complete our labs….
2
Record & Analyze the Data
Graphs - To help your data make visual trends. Written – Paragraph format or notes of what you saw, heard, etc.
3
Graphs & Charts
4
Bar Graphs
7
What was missing from the bar graph?
8
Hatch rate of Brine Shrimp per Day per 1 ml of Solution
Number of Brine Shrimp Percent Salinity of the Water
9
Line Graphs
12
Pie Chart
14
Which one should we use? Bar Graph Line Graph Pie Chart
When are appropriate times to use each of these graphs? Which graph would illustrate our data the best in this situation?
16
What now? Let’s talk about the Data Analysis…
What does our graphic tell us about the data? How do the results relate to our hypothesis? Did we have any problems, errors or unusual results?
17
What Data Analysis is: It is in paragraph form.
It relates your data back to your original hypothesis. It does explain why the hypothesis was supported or rejected (one of these words MUST be in this section). It does discuss the actual data. It discusses any problems, errors or unusual data.
18
What Data Analysis is NOT:
It is NOT a list of the data (we’ve already seen the data tables and graphs). It is NOT a restating of your procedures (we already know your procedures). It does NOT discuss how to correct any problems, errors or unusual results in the future (save that for the conclusion). P.S. Do not use personal pronouns!!!!
19
Conclusion: Relate back to the original question (our problem).
Can you now answer this question? You should find yourself explaining why or how….
20
Visit your research – it can assist you in concluding the lab.
Do the results match the information you found out through research? If not, why do you think that is? You may reference other sources to back up your findings.
21
If your results are inconclusive, you may need to carry out an additional experiment.
If this is the case, you would describe additions or changes you would make to ensure results that are more conclusive. (hint: this is where you discuss fixing any problems, errors or unusual results). P.S. Even though you all had a blast doing the lab, it is inappropriate to write about how fun it was.
22
Wasn’t that awesome?
