Teaching from Matthews Gospel
Jesus The King Teaching from Matthews Gospel
2
Key Emphasis of Matthews gospel
Jesus as King – the promised Messiah who is offering the prophesied kingdom to Israel – God’s earthly people. Matthew references many Old Testament scriptures to show how Jesus The King has come to Israel to fulfil all that God had promised to Israel Ultimately, Matthew shows how Israel, blinded by sin, reject Jesus as their promised King and murdered Him unjustly Israel's rejection of Jesus results in judgement and the time of the promised kingdom being near to Israel, is shifted to one which is far off in time Because of Israel's rejection of Jesus, God allows all nations (the Gentiles) the privilege of entering into the heavenly realm of Jesus Kingdom through Jesus death and resurrection The gospel contains a particular message to Israel, but it is also universal in it’s message to the Gentile nations. Key Verse: Matt. 16:16 – Simon Peter answered, “ You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God”
