With your math partners, arrange your Base Ten blocks to represent the problem 23 x 6. Be ready to share! This is one way we could show it:

23 23 x 6 Here is the way I would draw this on my paper. I drew the number 23 using base ten pieces. Because this problem is saying I have six groups of 23, I drew 23 six times. Then I can count up the 10 sticks (120) and the ones (18). I can add = 138. The product of 23x 6 = 138. 6

6 23 x 6 I could also draw 23 groups of 6. This isn’t as effective to do on paper because it takes longer and is easier to make a mistake. It will still work though. It is more practical to use your bigger number as the number you represent with base ten pieces and your smaller number as the number of groups you create. (Look back at the last slide to see what I mean)! 23
