2. Sketch/write #20: Read over the article “Ethics in the Age of Digital Photography” and answer the following: 1) What is credibility? List the 3 questions that help decipher credibility. 2) Ethics: Explain the controversy over the Newsweek photograph of OJ Simpson. How did they represent him? What ethical questions did the photograph raise/create? 3) Ethics vs. taste: explain this. 4) A matter of “taste.” Should you always show the truth? Explain the photo of the American soldier and your opinion about “taste” in photography and photojournalism. 5) Personal Ethics: What is your opinion about photographing as an outsider/objective observer vs. taking action? 6) Digital Manipulation: Discuss the controversary over the 1982 National Geographic photo and the UCONN National Championship basketball photo. 7) What is your opinion about the ethical nature of manipulating photos? Explain

3. 1) Photoshop Practice #1 – Overexposure:
Using your OWN photo:
Resize and Crop to print size 5X7” or 7X5”
Correct for overexposure.
Turn in the before and after photo on 1 document.
New doc at ”10X7”

Using a different photo of your OWN:
2) Photoshop Practice #2: Underexposure:
Resize and Crop to print size 4X6” or 6X4”
Correct for underexposure

4. Photoshop Practice Assignments:
Check the image’s size and resolution (Image --> Image Size…).
Crop the image to a size and resolution where someone could make a 5X7” or 7X5” inch print (you choose the orientation: portrait or landscape).
Check the image’s Histogram.
Use Levels and Curves to “fix” the exposure issues.

7. Photoshop Assignment #1: Veggie Portrait or Edible Architecture
Create a face (beginner) or edible architecture (more advanced) by selecting individual vegetables and removing them from their backgrounds. Move them, duplicate & transform them.
Requirements:
File size: 8X10”, 150 ppi, RGB color mode
Include 6 vegetables from the veggie.jpeg pic on
the website. Include 2 more vegetables or fruit
of your own. Use freedigitalphotos.net to download oics.
3) Clean selections:
Remove images with selection tools: quick select,
magic wand, lasso
4) Must see Transformation of objects in:
Size/scale
Hue/saturation
Rotation
Duplication
5) Include a background environment
6) TITLE this document “your last name_veggie.psd” and save in your H drive.

8. PS Practice Assignment #2: PHOTO MONTAGE:
Use of 4 or more different images from the stock photos folder in Imaging&Arts and stock photo sites.
Minimum of 5 photos: background and 4 more.
Transformation of objects in the following ways:
Size/scale
Hue/saturation
Rotation, warp, distort, etc.
Opacity (in layers)
--use any images on stock photo sites on Edline
--Must have a background color or image.
