Put your bag under your desk. Keeping in the spirit of memoir, today you’ll reflect on another prompt about yourself. Fill in the blanks for one of the sentences below and fill the space provided on your bell ringer. People always seem to misunderstand …. (fill in the blank with something about yourself). 2 Answer… 1. What’s the author’s purpose in writing this? What did he want the reader to realize, appreciate, or understand? (The author’s purpose is to suggest/ explain/demonstrate/support/ridicule/ satirize/evoke/clarify/echo/urge/communicate…) 2. Setting – How does the author connect the setting (TIME and PLACE) with his life experience? Do the settings change, and how do they serve as a backdrop for events in the writer’s life? List at least one SPECIFIC example of how the author utilizes setting.
