Geo MT 3 Lesson 1 Angle Pairs
2
Angle Pairs Adjacent Angles: 2 angles that are next to each other.
Linear Pair : A linear pair form a straight line. They are also supplementary. (they add to 1800)
3
Angle Pairs Vertical Angles: A pair of non-adjacent angles formed by the intersection of two straight lines. Vertical angles are always congruent.
4
Complementary Angles Two angles are complementary if the sum of their measures is 900.
5
Supplementary Angles Two angles are supplementary if the sum of their measures is 1800.
6
Algebra Examples The angles in this example are vertical angles so we know they are equal. Set the two angles equal to each other Subtract 3x from each side.
7
Here you have a pair of vertical angles
And a linear pair Begin with the vertical angles Subtract 4x from both sides Add 16 to both sides Divide by 2 The sum of the angles in a linear pair =180 Substitute 11 in for x Collect like terms
