December 3: USDE invites schools to apply February 18: Applications due to USDE March: USDE reviews application completeness and accuracy April: An Assessment Panel with expertise in state assessments, reviews the applications and verifies the eligibility of the schools August: States certify nominated schools have met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) September: The Secretary announces the 2009 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Fall 2009: The principal and a teacher, are invited to a ceremony in Washington, DC,

19 Awards The principal and a teacher, will be invited to USDE ceremony, where the school will receive a plaque and a flag signifying their NCLB-Blue Ribbon School status.
