Charadriiformes Also known as the shorebirds
Includes thick-knees, lapwings, plovers, sandpipers, snipes, gulls, terns, and skimmers ~350 species Small to medium-sized birds Most live near water & eat invertebrates or other small mammals Wide distribution from desert birds to sea birds

Scolopacidae Common name: Snipes
This family is part of the order Charadriiformes Long slender bill used to dig through the mud to catch invertebrates. Don’t need to be able to see to catch food, due to fifth pair of nerves at the tip of the bill. Found in very wet, marshy habitats such as bogs and swamps with thick brush to hide from predators.

Sitidae Common Name: Nuthatches
These birds are omnivorous but mostly prefer to eat insects, fruits, & seeds. Typically nest in holes or crevices in the temperate woodlands of the northern hemisphere. Compact birds, short legs, compressed wings, w/ long, pointed bills in comparison to body.
