Presentation on theme: "Welcome! Today: Lab Activity - Reflection & Refraction"— Presentation transcript:

1 Welcome! Today: Lab Activity - Reflection & Refraction Yesterday: Ch. 29 Review Questions #1-21 Tuesday: Lab Activity - Making Color with Light See the blog for more detailed information. You should have time at the end of class to finish any previous assignments you may still need to submit. Today's Objective: Identify and differentiate between reflection and refraction.

2 You must label the components of the ray diagram: normal, incident ray, reflected ray, angle of incidence, angle of reflection, etc.

3 Examples of Reflection & Refraction:

4 Today's Lab Activity /11/13 You will test the Law Of Reflection and compare it to Refraction, observing how the path of light changes with each situation. List your lab partners (maximum of 4 per group). What is the difference between reflection and refraction? The "splash" (see Step 1.4) is the laser beam "splashing" on the paper so that you can see it. When using the prism, have the beam of light enter the longer side of the prism so that it exits one of the shorter sides. Move around both the laser beam and the mirror or prism until you get a good visible set of angles. You will see many rays of light in the prism, draw only the best and most-visible incident and reflected/refracted rays. You are simply identifying the different paths that the ray will take: either reflected or refracted.

5 If you need more time to finish the assignments properly...
I will allow class time tomorrow to complete the work from the past couple days (both labs and Review Questions). If you missed the lab from Tuesday, you will need to make it up during lunch or after school on Friday.
