Mechanisms of action of secretagogues used for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. Secretagogues increase the luminal fluid content by acting on chloride channels (linaclotide, plecanatide and lubiprostone) or the Na+/H+ exchanger 3 (NHE3) (tenapanor).
