The Structure of the Earth
The Earth is composed of three main parts: A thin rocky crust A soft rocky mantle A liquid nickel/iron core with a solid centre.

The Earth’s crust is very thin compared to the rest of it.
Imagine the Earth as an apple, the crust is only about as thick as the skin. Despite this, the deepest mines only scratch the surface.

The earth’s crust varies in thickness according to where you are.
This is why the thickness is given as an average. The rocky crust is not as dense as the middle of the Earth.
