I. Qualifications Natural born citizen At least 35 yrs of age
Residency for at least 14 yrs Above are Constitutional requirements- What are “unwritten” requirements?

II. Term of office Four years Maximum of 2 elected terms
Washington’s precedent was institutionalized by Amendment 22. Passage of 22nd amendment was due to Republican Congress’ concern over future FDR’s Possible to serve under 10 yrs in office if a VP becomes President just after the midpoint of a President’s term. For example: If Obama died in January of 2010, Biden would take over until Biden then runs for the presidency in 2012 and wins. He decides to run in 2016, and wins. He technically served 2 ½ terms. = 10 yrs

III. Compensation Set by Congress. Cannot be raised or lowered during President’s term of office for fear of Congress using undue influence Salary was raised from $200,000 to $400,000 in (first raise since 1969) Numerous other “perks” An opportunity to make serious money after leaving office

IV. Succession If office of presidency is vacant due to death, resignation, or impeachment and removal Then VP takes over to finish out term If President is disabled- 25th amendment applies If the Zombie apocalypse hits the order of succession stated in 25th amendment applies Donald Trump’s “Mental Fitness”
