Readers ask questions before, during, and after reading Readers ask questions for many reasons, both in school and in their personal lives To clarify meaning Make predictions about the text Help you interact with the author Help you figure out what you want to learn Focus attention on specific parts of the text Locate a specific answer in the text To keep your mind alert as you interact with the text, keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next as you search for answers How do readers figure out answers to their questions? Good readers think of questions while they are reading. These questions help keep the reader engaged. Good readers ask questions to: Construct meaning Enhance understanding Find answers Solve problems Find specific information Acquire a body of information Discover new information Propel research efforts Clarify confusion
