12
Hitting the Pause Button
Don’t automatically say yes just to please Think about whether no is the RIGHT answer
13
Practice the Process Find sayings in your voice:
“Can I give you a buzz tomorrow” “Can I check my deadline schedule” “I need more information to make that commitment”
14
What is the value equation
Who is the right person to do the task? Can you dual purpose the effort? Is it within you authority to delegate?
15
I delegate tasks when Someone has the expertise I don’t
It is not efficient for me to complete the task I could offer a developmental opportunity I would not be using the institutions resources wisely if I didn’t
16
If I delegate, I Clarify roles and responsibilities
Articulate expectations Establish communication norms Write instructions and expectations Define what represents success Establish milestones Measure the outcome
17
Practice changing your Yes:
Interruptions Preventing interruptions before they begin Setting up a signal Minimizing interruptions you can’t avoid Giving people options
18
