2 Today Co-Innovate is currently a £4 million 3 year business engagement project opening up the resources of Brunel university London to businesses particularly London based SME businesses Student Academic Physical Utilising an Open Innovation Model which means that we try to accommodate the best journey for the business rather than pushing them through a fixed journey. Funded jointly by the EU – through the London ERDF Programme to work with London based SMEs University – to work with all businesses.

3 History Co-Innovate started in 2012 with the first bid for ERDF for £500,000 matched with £500,000 from Brunel and ran through to 2015. Co-Innovate built on a smaller Brunel project called DesignPlus. Brunel Match is in Staff Time and Overhead Costs. Co-Innovate Expanded in 2016 with a successful ERDF bid for £2,000,000 Matched with £2,000,000 from Brunel

4 Why? Two Drivers 1) Brunel – To Increase
Student exposure to working with businesses Graduate employment opportunities Academic research opportunities Government requirement for Universities to support SME growth 2) EU Funders – To Increase Employment within London based SMEs through Collaboration with Universities.

5 How? Business Engagement
Direct Marketing, Database building and Networking Workshops and Events e-Marketing Crowdfunding Food – Turning Food Waste into Business/Packaging Branding Diagnostic of Business Need Turning the Need into a project brief to address the business issue Identifying the correct Brunel Resource Engaging that Resource Maintaining contact to ensure Issues that arise do not stop the work Final review of work and results.

6 Results Case Studies Businesses engaged – 1,400
Total number of hours of Support – 30,000 Hours Businesses completing 12 hours – 200 Collaborations – 100 Employment increase – 30 .
