I am a man-made waterway built after the Spanish-American War, but before WWI started (actually WWI started as I was being finished). Theodore Roosevelt felt I was needed to allow for a trade route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

I am the name of the place where the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific met to complete the transcontinental railroad.

I am the state many rushed to in search of gold, causing many people to move and settle in the west.
