1 Electrophoresis

2 Cut each strand of DNA

3 Tape three strands together end to end to form a total of 4 strands
Tape three strands together end to end to form a total of 4 strands. One of your stands will be short because there will only be 2 pieces taped together. Label 1-4. Each strand represents a different piece of DNA.

4 Using a dry erase marker create a gel and chamber on your desk.
Create 4 wells at the negative end of your desk and number Indicate this is the negative end. Indicate at the other end of the desk the positive end.

6 Restriction Enzymes Using the restriction enzymes, locate the cuts and keep each strand separate. Once all cuts have been made put your stands in the appropriate well on your desk to create your DNA fingerprint. Keep each strand in their separate lane. Small strands travel further down the lane. Identify how many base pairs are in each strand and label.

7 Copy into lab notebook Recreate your gel in your lab notebook. DETAIL IS IMPORTANT!
