1
Prevention of Coastal Erosion
2
Many Ways To Prevent Erosion
Breakwater (above or below water) Retaining walls (rock/sandbags) Groynes Fencing/Netting Planting vegetation No movement zones Replace eroded sand
3
Breakwaters (above and underwater)
Prevents waves from breaking on shore and being destructive with their undertow.
4
Retaining Walls Reduces erosion from breaking waves on shore.
5
Groynes In the case of longshore drift, material moving down the beach collects on the windward side of the groyne slowing movement down the beach.
6
Fencing/Netting Prevents movement of on shore sand by wind and waves by creating barrier (like with groynes).
7
Planting Vegetation Roots of plants to help hold sand in place.
8
No Movement Zones/Movement Zones
Keeps disruptive traffic minimized.
9
Replacing of Sand Slows erosion from pushing inland because new material replacing the old.
