2 What Are Text Structures?
Text structures are the way that a text is organized by the author with the specific purpose of“guiding” the reader’s way through the text. There are SIX main text structures.

3 Chronological Events are ordered by time
Example – Write an example about what you did on Saturday. 1 2 3 4

4 Spatial Arranging things according to their location in a space (area). Example – Write three sentences about your room and where things are located.

5 Compare & Contrast Finds similarities and differences Example - Compare/contrast Ole Miss and Mississippi State

6 Cause and Effect Defines a cause and what happens as a result of it. Shows how one event leads to another Example – Write a paragraph about how you skipped school, which caused you to get suspended.

7 Order of Importance Looks at events, characters, etc. and orders them from most to least important Example – Write a paragraph about qualities you look for in a friend. Idea 1: Idea 2: Idea 4: Idea 3: Idea 5:

8 Problem/Solution States problem, actions taken, and ultimate solution
Example - Write a paragraph about having a flat tire and what you did to fix it.
