2. Country Context Vulnerability to Climate Change
Nepal is highly susceptible to climatic hazards including flooding, landslides, droughts, and glacier lake outburst floods.
Cost of Floods and Landslides ≈ US$270 million/year
CC estimated to result in 2% loss of the GDP/year, (5% in extreme years)
Low investment in urban infrastructure

3. Country Context Cont. Rapid Urbanization and Increasing Climate Risks
Fastest Urbanizing country in South Asia: inadequate and sub-standard urban infrastructure and services Lack proper operation and maintenance planning
Rapid urbanization, poor planning and low quality construction compound social vulnerability
Poor quality of infrastructure: both infrastructure and dependent population are sensitive to climate risks

Adaptation of New urban theory and innovative planning concepts
Publications related to climate resilient including a report “Inclusive Cities: Resilient Communities”
Development of new cities in and outside the capital city
Formulation of urban development related policies
