4 Effects of the Emancipation Proclamation
All slaves in rebel states were freed. The focus of the war shifted from preservation of the Union to freeing slaves. African Americans were allowed to fight for their freedom. The E.P. paved the way for total abolition in the United States (13th Amendment). The E.P. stopped foreign powers like Britain and France from getting involved in the war.
