What types of diseases are there?

spread by mosquitoes breeding in stagnant water
Hookworm
parasite causing severe internal bleeding
Guinea Worm
a worm which lives under peoples’ skin
Bilharzia – River Blindness
parasite transmitted by water snails.
Where in the world might this be happening?

3. OVER 1 BILLION PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO SAFE WATER.
Why is this happening?
Industries pollute water
Sewage is washed into the rivers because only 50% of the world’s population has adequate sanitation (toilets).
The quality of water is becoming worse.
Millions of people in poorer countries have to use water contaminated by human sewage.
In parts of Africa nitrate levels in drinking water are 8 times higher than ‘safe’ levels.
