Biology Do Now Directions: Take out a sheet of notebook (Do Now sheet) and, then answer each question. Explain how the Periodic Table of Elements was organized.
2
Biology Do Now Explain how the Periodic Table of Elements was organized. The Periodic Table of Elements is organized by groups, periods, properties, and atomic numbers.
3
Collect Do Nows for this week: 2/4/19 – 2/8/19
4
Engage – Answer on a sheet of notebook paper
What are the unique properties of water?
5
Before we move to the lab side of the classroom.
No horseplay! No more than 4 people at a station. READ the lab. You must complete all 7 labs by the end of the period. Future labs will depend on your behavior during today’s lab.
6
Explore – Water Lab Students will complete the lab on properties of water. Each activity/lab is worth 100 points for a total of 800 lab points. Activity #1: Water’s molecular structure & H2 bonding Station #1: High Heat Capacity Station #2: Cohesion Station #3: Polarity #1 (Solubility) Station #4: Polarity #2 (Adhesion/Surface Tension) Station #5: Polarity #3 (Polar vs. Nonpolar substances) Station #6: Polarity #4 (Water’s attraction to charges) Station #7: High Heat of Vaporization
7
Objective(s) Students will know the properties of water by performing 7 water labs. Mastery level: 75% or better on each water lab
