What is a model? A pattern, plan, representation, or description designed to show the structure or workings of an object, system, or concept.

Physical Models Models that you can touch. Model airplanes, cars, volcanoes, and more! Good to understand objects that are too small or too large to see completely.

Mathematical Models Models made up of mathematical equations and data. Good for showing measurable data! Line graph Pie Chart Bar Graph

What model do I use? Scientists use models to help guide their search for information. The right model must be chosen in order to learn from it. Always consider, “what information am I trying to show” when choosing a type of model.

Questions! There are 20 kids in class. 3 are walkers. 7 are car riders. 4 go to TMSA afterschool. 2 go to boys and girls club. 1 goes to Reef House. 3 ride have dance after school. Give three examples of how to chart this data. Which type of model would you use to study objects that are too small to be seen? Explain.
