What kind of school do we want to be? David Hargreaves – Specialist Schools Trust. “Student voice flourishes in a particular kind of school culture. In turn it helps to replenish such a culture – one that reflects and sustains the school as a community of learners.” “The idea of community most neatly captures what student voice is about. It is not simply about introducing new structures, such as a school council, or about creating occasional opportunities for students to speak their minds. It is about forming open and trustful relationships between staff and students.”

4 Next Three Years… This was focused on striking a balance between learners knowing and asserting their RIGHTS – fundamental to a Citizenship Specialist School – and making sure they understood that with rights came RESPONSIBILITIES!

@ Doug An interesting post. The old order focuses too heavily on the concept of “teaching’. If it is taught that is all there is to it. When the focus is on learning the paradigm shifts to that of the students. The role of the “teacher” is to make sure students are learning what they need to know. This is the paradigm that must win out if schools are going to change.

10 A task for you… In table groups look at the document – this is what I use When I shadow a learner to see What opportunities to lead their Learning they receive in lessons. Look at the headings and questions. If I was in your lesson would I see any/some/most of these things happening?
