Oxygen Reactions
2
Hydrocarbons Hydrocarbons- A compound found in the fuel that burns in a combustion reaction. Contain only carbon (C) and hydrogen (H). Examples: Natural gas in furnaces and stoves Wood burning for a fire
3
Photosynthesis 6CO2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Energy used by living things comes from the sun. Sunlight = ENERGY for photosynthesis 6CO2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2 Changes LIGHT ENERGY into CHEMICAL ENERGY Plants make their own glucose. Others get glucose from consuming plants. Glucose
4
Cellular Respiration Process that breaks down glucose with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water. C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O Occurs in the cells every living thing! PLANTS and ANIMALS! Breaks glucose bonds and converts into ATP… ENERGY! We use ATP in our bodies for energy. Some is lost to heat.
5
Rust Rust is an iron oxide, formed by the reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water.
