Daily Objective Each kind of isopod has unique structures and behavior. Different kinds of isopods have similar structures and behavior.

Vocabulary Flatter - Smooth or level Jagged - Having sharp edges
Moisture - Wetness; a small amount of liquid that causes dampness Pill bug - A type of isopod that rolls into a tight ball when threatened Protect - To keep from harm; to defend Roll up - To wrap something around on itself Rounder - To be more round Sort - To put objects with the same properties into groups Sow bug - A type of isopod that can move fast and doesn’t roll up into a ball when threatened Turn over - To rotate or revolve

Introduction Did you know there are two different kinds of isopods in the containers? Some are pill bugs and some are sow bugs. Today we are going to try to separate them into two groups.

Observation and Discussion
Here are some hints to help you sort the isopods. Pill bugs have a rounder carapace. Sow bugs carapace have flat sides with jagged edges. Pill bugs can roll up into a ball. Sow bugs can turn over from their backs.
