By Brian, Anna & Nguyet Hydro-Electric Power
2
Advantages No pollution – Water is good everywhere
Doesn’t depend on international trade Renewable – Water is “renewed” or reused through the water cycle Can provide backup power Cheap – Water is everywhere Can provide irrigation and control floods All of these things make hydro-power easily attainable.
3
Disadvantages Disruption of fish migration habits – only if done improperly. Drought can affect how much electricity is produced, if any at all Can worsen water quality of the the water in which it is used
4
Primary Source The Sun and the water cycle replenish the water as a primary source
6
How Hydro-Electricity is Generated (using math)
P = pQgh – Power available for generating energy using hydropower Q= Δ𝑉 Δ𝑡 – Volume flow rate (volume/sec) P = power generated in Kilowatts p = pressure of water g = 9.81m/s^2 h = height
