Watch what’s happening
What do you think is happening? What are the bubbles? Why is it bubbling?

What’s Up With Water p. 3R draw-an-atom.html Draw individual hydrogen and oxygen atoms that are coming out of the tacks, explain your drawing

Page 4R States of Matter
4
Remember…the basic particle is an ATOM
Atoms are amazing! They are the smallest particle known to exist. BUT – how these tiny particles move totally affects the structure of matter! When there is change in matter it is a PHYSCIAL CHANGE 4
5
1st state of matter: Solid
Particles Arrangement- tightly packed Particle Motion- vibrate Energy- Slow Volume- Definite (fixed) Shape-Definite (fixed) Density-High except for water (it has medium density) Structure- crystalline
6
2nd State of Matter: Liquid
Particles Arrangement- close Particle Motion- slide past one another Energy- Medium Volume- Definite Shape- Indefinite Density-Medium except for water (it has high density)
7
3rd State of Matter: Gas Particles Arrangement- Far apart
Particle Motion- fast and move in all directions Energy- High Volume- Indefinite Shape- Indefinite Density- Low
8
Stand Up and Show the states of matter
Solid- Stand 1 foot away from your classmates and shake Liquid- Slide slowly past one another, but don’t get too far away Gas- WALK past one another, move in all directions
