Delayed Starts Where a match is unable to start at the scheduled time, the match will be reduced by one over per side for each full seven minutes of playing time lost, subject to a minimum of 60 overs per match. Captains may agree to delay the official start to any time up to 1.30pm in which case the reduction of overs will be computed from the new agreed start time. (Note that any time used up in delaying the start to 1.30pm is deductible from the 60 minutes threshold allowable under 5(c)(i)(1) below)

Interruptions (i) Where Interruptions occur after a match has been started: - Provided more than 60 minutes in total of playing time have been lost , then the number of overs allowed will be reduced according to the rules below:- • Overs reduction in the first innings will be on the on the basis of one over per side for each full seven minutes lost, with a minimum of 30 overs per side being allowed, or if the side batting first has already exceeded the number of overs to be allowed to it, a minimum of 20 overs to be allowed to the side batting second. • Overs Reduction in the second innings will be on the basis on 1 over for each full 3½ minutes lost, with a minimum of 20 overs being allowed.

If a match is abandoned after 20 overs or more have been bowled in the second innings then the result of the match will be computed via the Duckworth/Lewis methodology. (iii) If a match is abandoned with less than 20 overs bowled in the second innings then no result will be computed, the match will be recorded as abandoned. (iv) If both captains agree then up to 90 minutes of playing time may be lost before Duckworth-Lewis is implemented (less that already used if start time moved by Captains). (v) Once over reductions occur then innings totals and (if appropriate) the result will be computed via Duckworth/Lewis.

All you need to do is to ensure the over deductions are correct. Calculation of targets will be done by the scorers, who have an approved DLS calculator on their laptops. As long as they together agree the revisions, that’s it.

12
Examples and Practice 1 Match starts on time at 12:30pm, 50 overs per side. Team A completes their innings uninterrupted and score Team B bat and after 70 minutes come off for rain with the score at after 22 overs have been bowled. After 85 minutes the Umpires agree play will start in 15 minutes. What is the revised target? 12 12
13
Examples and Practice 1 Overs are deducted at the rate of 1 over per 3.5 minutes First 60 minutes of stoppage are ignored At resumption total time will be 100 minutes 100mins – 60 that are ignored = 40 mins stoppage time 40/3.5 = overs lost (always round down) 13 13

15
Examples and Practice 2 Start delayed – starts at 2:20pm so 110 minutes lost. Delayed start overs deducted at 1 over per side for every 7 minutes (no 60 grace period for delayed starts, only after match has started). 110mins / 7 = = 15 overs per side deducted so 35 overs per side. Team A completes innings, scoring in their 35 overs. 15 15

17
Examples and Practice 2 Team B bats and score 35-1 in 9 overs when rain intervenes. After 95 minutes Umpires say play will start in 20 minutes. 115mins – 60 = 55 minutes stoppage time. 55/3.5 = = 15 overs lost. What is the target? 17 17
18
18 18
19
Examples and Practice 3 Team A bat and score 265-8 in their 50 overs.
In the second innings Team B are on after 26 overs when a thunderstorm strikes, making any further play impossible. What is the result of the match? 19 19
20
20 20
21
Examples and Practice 3 As the target (121) is less than the runs scored (133) Team B have won. Result is expressed as runs e.g. Team B win by 13 runs (par score/tie would be 120) 21 21
22
Examples and Practice 5 Team A are on after 35 overs when rain comes. They can’t go back for 120 minutes. 120 – 60 min = 60 mins stoppage time 60 / 7 = 8.57 overs lost per team. Now a 42 over game. Team A go back and score in their 42 overs. What is Team B’s target? 22 22
23
8 overs reduced so now a 42 over game.
Team A already batted 35 overs so 7 overs remaining after suspension. 23 23

25
Examples and Practice 5A
Team B bat and on after 20 overs rain comes again. Play resumes after 30 mins (Captains don’t invoke 30mins optional grace period). What is the new target? 30/3.5 = 8 overs lost
26
