Monday, March 10th Find the Product (x + 4)(x + 7) 2. (x + 14)(x + 2)

2 A Look Ahead Monday: Factoring GCF Tuesday: Factoring when a=1 Wednesday: Factoring when a≠1 Thursday: Review Factoring Friday: Quiz

3 Reminders Next Test: Wednesday, March 20th
All Make up work for this unit is due then Test #2 (Graphing Quadratics) retest needs to be completed by then.

4 EOCT Week #10 What is the vertex of the graph of f(x) = 𝒙 𝟐 + 10x – 9? A. (5, 66) B. (5, –9) C. (–5, –9) D. (–5, –34)

5 Questions On Homework?!

6 Graphing Graph the function y = x2 + 2x – 3 using a table. x -3 -2 -1
Then, find the x-intercepts, which we will call the zeroes for the rest of this unit. x = ___ and x = ___ x -3 -2 -1 1 f (x)

7 FACTORING

8 Factoring=Writing Polynomial as a PRODUCT
Goal = UNdistribute

9 So, how would I work the other way?

10 Today’s Method GCF

11 Find the GCF for the following numbers
Essential Skill-GCF GCF=GREATEST COMMON FACTOR Find the GCF for the following numbers 12 and 24 6 and 12

12 Steps to Factoring Out a GCF:
Find the GCF of all its terms (number and/or variables). Write the polynomial as a product by factoring out the GCF from all the terms. - This is done by dividing the original terms of the polynomial by the GCF. The remaining factors in each term will form a polynomial.

13 Find the GCF of each polynomial
3x² + 9x c³ + c² + c 6k²-36k

14 #1 2x2 – 16x + 24 2(x2 – 8x +12)

15 You Try... 2. 3y2 + 36y + 60 3(y²+12y+20) 3.

16 Prime Polynomials Example:
When one is only factoring out the GCF common factor that the expression is PRIME Example:

17 Factoring

18 Sign Rule: When the last term is POSITIVE…
The signs inside the parenthesis will be the SAME as the middle number’s sign

19 Figuring out the Numbers
Check to see… What multiplies to give you the last number AND adds to give you the middle number?

20 x2 +7x + 6 x2 +7x + 6 ( )( ) x x + 6 + 1

21 x2 + 9x + 14 x2 + 9x + 14 ( )( ) x x + 7 + 2

22 x2 – 6x + 8 x2 – 6x + 8 ( )( ) x x – 4 – 2

23 x2 – 10x + 16 x2 – 10x + 16 ( )( ) x x – 8 – 2

24 Sometimes you can factor out a GCF 1st!

25 2x2 – 16x + 24 2(x2 – 8x +12) 2( )( ) x x – 6 – 2

26 You Try... 3y2 + 36y + 60 3(y +10)(y +2) 4x2 +24x + 32 4(x + 2)(x + 4)
