Sentence Level: figurative language and literary devices
Text Level: Literary devices and elements of fiction

4. Strategy First reading—get the main idea and gist
2nd reading—be sure you understand all words and their possible multiple meanings.
Use your literary analysis skill to look for figurative language and literary devices, character development, characterization, themes, motifs, symbols, etc. BE SURE TO USE LITERARY TERMINOLGY.
