Grrrmar Warm-up: Second Person
Definition: Writing from the second person point of view can weaken a writer’s effectiveness. Using second person can make the work sound as if the writer is giving directions or offering advice to his or her readers, rather than informing or persuading them (Writing Commons). Weak: You need to realize the importance of your actions so that you can be a role model to your sister! (2nd person) Stronger: It’s important for older siblings to realize that their behavior influences their younger sisters and brothers. Application: Fix the two below sentences: Summer vacation is important; when you’ve been working hard all year, you need a break and a chance to catch your breath. You can do a lot with your summer vacation: you can get a job, hang out with your friends, or develop a new talent. motherwhisperers.com depositphotos.com
