Review prompt Comprehension Summarize topic or story (main themes) Find a common ground- connections (self-text-world) Define words- in students primary language if possible. Break down into smaller steps.

Research has shown that exposure to violence leads to: decreased IQ and reading ability (Delaney-Black et al., 2003) lower grade-point average (Hurt et al., 2001) higher absenteeism (Beers and DeBellis, 2002) decreased rates of high school graduation (Grogger, 1997) significant deficits in attention, abstract reasoning, long-term memory for verbal information, decreased IQ, and decreased reading ability (Beers and DeBellis, 2002)
