What do these have in common?

Some traits are inherited and some are acquired.
An inherited trait is one that you are born with. An acquired trait is a characteristic that you can practice in order to improve upon. Curly Hair? Black Hair? Good at Soccer?

What will your Doggie DNA produce?
7
Directions 1. Make sure you have an envelope containing “Dog DNA”. 2. Determine the first trait of your dog (body shape) by randomly picking a piece of dog DNA out of the envelope. 3. Look at the symbols on the DNA strip you have chosen. Match the pattern to one you see on the Dog Traits Key for body shape. 4. Circle the picture for body shape that matches the DNA piece that you picked. 5. Put the DNA back in the bag and pass the bag to the next person in the group. 7. Repeat these steps for each of the traits listed on the Dog Traits Key. 8. When you have finished, draw your dog with all of its traits. Your dog should take up most of the space on the page, be neatly done, and should match the traits you circled on the Key!

Gallery Walk As you walk, take notes about what you observe. Think about: are any of the dogs exactly the same? Are there any traits that you see more often than others?
