2 Warm-Up: Looking Back Did you predict Napoleon defeating Snowball and expelling him from the farm? If so, what gave you clues? If not, why did it surprise you?

3 Stalin vs. Trotsky 1880’s: Revolutionaries in Russia adopt Karl Marx’s ideals of a state run by the workers. 1920: Bolshevik revolution succeeds; king and nobility stripped of power, beginning the United Soviet Socialist Republic. 1920’s: Bolshevik leader, Vladimir Lenin, is ill. Two of his followers, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, compete to be the next leader.
