Mrs. Shepherd assigns a homework assignment Monday, but doesn’t have time to grade it so she puts it on her desk for grading Tuesday. She collects Tuesday’s work, but again can’t grade it so she stacks it on top of Monday’s work. It’s a bad week and this continues Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You come in and want to see your work from Tuesday where in the stack will it mostly likely be? (Picture and words)

For you it is a busy week too
For you it is a busy week too. Each day after school instead of putting your clothes away you make a pile on your floor on Monday. Each day you through your clothes on top of the Pile. Saturday comes around and the shirt you wore Thursday is perfect for the party your going to tonight. About where in the pile of clothes would that be? (picture and words)

Using the Ideas you just did to find your clothes/ homework in the two stacks label the following image as if each layer was a day for stacking paper or clothes. Where would Monday be? Tuesday? Wednesday? Thursday? Friday?

Now do the same thing but label each stack using the following dates instead of days of the week

The Law of Superposition
The law of superposition states that as sediment lays down, and as the layers of the earth are formed rock layers below are older than rock layers above them. This is true for fossils found in rock layers. Fossils found in layers below are of animals that are older, or existed before other fossils found above them
