1 2 3 Development of New Phthalocyanine-Based Catalytic Systems
Victor N. Nemykin, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, University of Minnesota Duluth, Duluth, MN 55812 We aim to prepare set of mono- and polynuclear phthalocyanine-based catalysts for selective transformation of organic substrates. Several examples of such catalysts prepared during the second year grant period are presented below. Complexes 1 and 2 are the first example of the binuclear phthalocyanines with a rigid chiral cavity. Preliminary data on RuS (1) and RuR (1) compounds show their high activity in the C-H and C=C chemical bonds transformation reactions. We found that m-oxo dimer 3 is a very good catalyst for the transformation aromatic compounds into quinones and alcohols into aldehydes or ketones using organic peroxides and hypervalent iodine compounds as oxidants. We found that the reaction mechanism in these oxidation reactions depends on the type of oxidant and involves formation of mixed-valence [O=FeIV-O-FeIII]3+ and [HO-FeIV-O-FeIII]4+ cores. 1 2 3
