Epithelial tissues
2
Questions to research and discuss
What is histology? How is it used in medical and applied sciences? What are the advantages of dealing with histology in medicine and science? Why is it so important?
3
Histology is the study of tissues, including their role in the body, their anatomy, their interaction with body systems and the ways they are affected by disease. without the study of histology, little else in biology makes sense. Tissues are the building blocks of virtually everything in the body, understanding histology enables you to predict and understand organ behavior and function.
4
Many diseases occur at the tissue level
Many diseases occur at the tissue level. For example, cancer is often the result of problematic tissue overgrowth, and some infections cause tissue to necrotize. Histology can help you understand why some treatments work more effectively than others and why certain lifestyle choices can harm your body over time.
5
Learning objective Classify and explain types of epithelial tissues by discussing questions, creating mini-poster and concept map.
6
You are going to investigate epithelial tissue types, their characteristics and shapes by going through diagrams, and questions to discuss. Expectations: create a concept map on your mini-posters to classify epithelial tissue types. You can use the following options to make your concept map: 1 - Electronic version 2- use of chalk markers 3- model with play dough
7
Think out side the box Challenge/Think out of the box ( Bonus credit)
Refer to Try several organs to predict what type of epithelial tissues they may find virtually on microscopic slides.
8
Home work assignment Complete the graphic organizer found in the anatomy blog and cover only the epithelial tissue part in your copybook.
