3. Imogene Cunningham was one of the first women to make her living as a photographer. She bought her first camera at the age of 18.

4. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1907, and went to Germany to continue her studies. She opened her own studio in Seattle, before moving on to California to become a teacher.

5. She was a founding member of the f/64 group of photographers, which also included Ansel Adams, Henry Swift, and Willard van Dyke.
