Confidence (AKA…SWAG) You are ‘presenting’ from the moment you stand up – exude confidence…head up, shoulders back, stand tall and proud Eye contact is essential – make a connection BEFORE you begin speaking Movement Where to stand Head moves with words Where and when to walk No fidgeting feet or hands Rocking/Swaying/Tapping “The Look” See extra credit requirements Accessories Hair

Voice Verbal fillers & fluency breaks are KILLER Enunciation Pick a pronunciation and be confident Use proper volume Hands Hands at rest, hands complimenting words No hands touching: hair, clothing, other hand Body Eyes: contact with audience Talk to the audience, not at them Facial expressions – no grimacing for mistakes

4 Verbal Faux Pas Avoid filler words and repetitive expressions: now, like, also, uh, um Avoid saying “sorry” after a mistake Don’t use slang Refer to the audience as the Board or Committee (play the role of Brand Manager) Don’t get sassy when answering questions RELAX!!!

5 Common Mistakes - Style
Fluency breaks / stumbles Saying “Sorry” Talking too fast Talking too softly Poor eye contact Hair in face Moving too much or too little Unmotivated gestures/movement Sounding robotic/stiff and not conversational Repetitive phrases / crutch words

6 Extra Credit Dress Up Requirements
Gentlemen Dress slacks or khakis Dress shirt (button down or polo style) Polo shirt – solid colors…no loud designs Shirt tucked in Pants with belt Pants sit at natural waist Dress shoes – no sneakers, Vans, etc. Hair out of eyes Ladies Dress slacks, khakis or black pants Dress shirt Dress – appropriate length No sandals or sneakers No “flashy” accessories (stud earrings only, no long necklaces or bracelets) No skin… Hair out of eyes
