2. There are some key elements that serve to make a character sympathetic:

Physical Description – audiences/readers tend to sympathize with characters who are attractive.

4. 2. Altruism
The unselfish concern for the welfare of others makes a character more sympathetic.

A character who is the victim of suffering, whether physical or emotional, evokes sympathy.

6. 4. Saviour
This character is admired because they take action against suffering of someone else.

7. 5. Sacrifice
A character who is willing to give up something important (riches, power, position, freedom, life) for a moral cause will almost always get sympathy.

8. 6. Active Character
If a character just reacts to events, he/she is considered weak. However, if the character pursues some plan, need, dream or hope he/she is more sympathetic

If the character has noble characteristics such as courage, compassion, loyalty, honesty etc, an audience will find him/her more sympathetic

10. 8. Intelligence
Brain power is always admired.

11. 9. Flaws
A character should be flawed so readers/audiences can relate to him/her.

12. 10. Loved by Someone Else
If a character is loved by someone else, it means that character is worthy of love.
