USING THE ONLINE LEARNING CENTER TO SUPPORT CLUBS
George Ritcheske, Asst. Rotary Coordinator Emily Tucker, Regional Membership Officer Good afternoon! How many of you have been on Rotary’s Learning Center?

www.rotary.org/learn Online curriculum
Along with all your human and online membership resources, RI’s Learning Center is where all of Rotary’s online courses are housed. All courses are available for free and on demand so you can learn about Rotary whenever you want, and at your own pace. The Learning Center has been recently updated for more user friendly and immersive experience. You can find the Learning Center under Learning and Reference, or by going to [CLICK] Once you are in the Learning Center, you will see some tiles that represent different courses and learning plan. You can either scroll through the course catalog, use the search bar to search for a course, or use the menu to filter and find what you need.

MEMBERSHIP SECTION OF THE LEARNING CENTER
A learning plan is a group of courses that are grouped for a particular role or topic. For example, club presidents have a learning plan called Club President Basics. This learning plan includes 5 courses that club presidents should take. In fact all club officers have a learning plan designed for them. They are ed during their elect year and encouraged to enroll. We also have learning plans by topic. For example, this is the Membership Learning Plan. District Membership Chairs are automatically enrolled in this learning plan, although the courses in it are designed for, promoted and open to anyone. When you get to this page, you can scroll down to see all the membership courses offered.

We also have just released a new course called Rotary Basics Online, which is a new interactive, multimedia online learning experience for new members as well as existing club members. It’s a beautiful introduction to Rotary – check it out! [depending on when you give this presentation, - EN might be up by then!]

Course materials When you select one of the courses, you will see the list of course materials on the right. So we are in the Is Your Club Healthy? course, and as you can see, there is a video, a pdf, and eLearning modules that learners can click on to learn additional information on the topic. Now some these materials already existed. But for each topic, there is at least one interactive learning module, and those are newer and designed for independent learning. There is story based material, which invites the learner to choose different options to learn about what might happen if they make certain decisions as a club leader. It’s kind of a choose-your-adventure way of learning!
7
Let’s simulate the learning experience by going into one of these learning modules. This one is my favorite because it takes the important topic of Engaging Members and makes it personal and relateable. Let’s take a look at the course.
8
Here are learner is introduced to the idea of engagement and how important it is to both retention of members and attraction of new ones. Happy clubs attract happy prospective members.
9
Here we meet Noel. She introduces herself and explains her club used to do a big service project that was engaging to many members. Now it’s hard to get members to volunteer for it though, so she’s looking for solutions within her club.
10
Here are some different avenues that Noel is presented with.
Should she consider repeating the past successful service project? Let’s take a look at that option.
11
If the learner chooses that option, they are met with the reality that some members are not excited about this idea because the project has been done and is not attracting volunteers. They need new ideas! So, let’s go back.
12
We’re back to Noel’s meeting with other club leaders
We’re back to Noel’s meeting with other club leaders. Someone has the idea to survey members for input. Let’s try that route.
13
So let’s say Noel’s club is going to use the Member Satisfaction survey to see what members actually want. They come up with three things – let’s check out what offering social opportunities might do for the club.
14
Online modules Again, the learner is presented with a number of ideas for various social opportunities – having longer meetings, having interactive meetings, more networking time, and having social gatherings. Let’s look at each different possibility and learn more.
16
Here is a slide from the flexibility course that presents a fictional club and 3 ways they can implement changes to provide more flexible options. This one is great for members or club leaders who feel that their club is the way it is and they don’t have any ability to change it. It’s also great for those who see the value that comes with making changes to attract new members and re-engage current members, but they may have difficulty implementing the change. This course will walk you through some examples of how you can be more flexible, but more importantly, how you can manage conflict as you hit some bumps in the road. Each path includes some resistance to overcome, and as the learner, we help Raymond – the fictional club’s president - decide how he can address some issues in his club.

We are really excited about the potential of these online membership courses, and they are currently ones that are getting the most traffic on the learning center. How many of you have checked these out already? We hope that you take the courses yourself and find them to be a helpful tool to train members on these topics. Please recommend them to your district membership chairs and club leaders – not just so they take them but get some new ideas to apply to their own clubs. They can also be utilized for pre or post-course work for trainings or even in place of an in-person training when getting together isn’t feasible. We hope this tour through a couple of the courses gives you an idea of how valuable they can be and how many ideas they house. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share these with you!
