Who is Aristotle? Aristotle ( BCE) is a famous Greek philosopher, scientist, physicist, and mathematician. Aristotle wrote on a range of subjects, from logic, philosophy, psychology, politics, and rhetoric. He believed using rhetoric adequately could be an effective means of persuasion.

What is rhetoric? Rhetoric is the art of persuasion.
The goal of persuasion is to change others’ point of view or to move others to take action.

What is logos, ethos, and pathos?
Logos = Logic Ethos = Ethics, Image Pathos = Emotions (Passion)

Logos, Ethos, Pathos Using logos, ethos, and pathos will help you to master the art of persuasion. • Through language, you will be able to change the point of view of others! • Through language, you will be able to motivate others to take action!

Logos Logos is an argument based on facts, evidence and reason. Using logos means appealing to the readers’ sense of what is logical. Who are some other people that you could believe in because of their logic?

Ethos Ethos is an argument based on character. Using ethos means the writer or speaker appeals to the audience’s sense of ethical behavior. The writer or speaker is trustworthy, honest and ethical. “I am an ethical, trustworthy person, believe what I say.” TRUTH, JUSTICE, THE AMERICAN WAY VOTE FOR THIS HONEST GUY

Pathos Pathos = argument based on feelings Using pathos means appealing to readers’ emotions and feelings. WE SHOULD ACT NOW TO SAVE THE LIONS’ NATURAL HABITAT

The writer or speaker presents him or herself to the reader as credible, trustworthy, honest and ethical.

Using pathos means appealing to readers’ emotions and feelings.

Ethos, Pathos, Logos Get into groups of two.
Write one paragraph, with at least 6 sentences. Choose a product to advertise: shampoo, a camera, a coffee maker, jeans, an alarm system, etc. Choose a strategy: ethos, pathos, or logos to persuade your audience to purchase your product.
