Read your poem. Annotate it- look for sound devices, literary devices, connotative words. Answer the following on the page: What picture or image is created by the poem? How is the image related to the meaning of the poem? What does the poem mean? What is a possible interpretation? How does the writer use his tools to express this meaning? Choose one device or element (other than the visual element) and explain HOW it helps to express the meaning. This should be an IEL paragraph.

Find a friend on the other side of the room. Let them read the poem you have. Then share your ideas about it. After you have discussed “Chicago” and “I Will Wade Out,” share the visual poems you wrote.
