2. About Grant Wood Born in Iowa in 1891.
Wood’s family moved to Cedar Rapids after the death of father in 1901.
Wood became a metal shop apprentice soon after moving.
In 1910 Wood entered The Handicraft Guild, an art school run entirely by women.
Soon after he returned to Iowa to teach art.
In he traveled to Europe to study different styles of art.
Wood helped found the Stone City Art Colony to help fellow artists get through the great depression.
In Wood taught art at The University of Iowa's School of Art.
Wood died of pancreatic cancer the day before his birthday in 1942.

3. Most Successful Artwork
Wood’s most successful artwork was “American
Gothic” painted for the Great Depression.
Wood pretty much had a “one hit wonder”
with this artwork.
This work shows a husband and wife looking
rather unhappy with a pitchfork in the mans hand
With an old fashioned house in the background.
This shows hard working Americans working for their own well being.

4. Wood and Regionalism
Wood was involved in a movement of Regionalism which is situated in the Midwest.
Filled with advanced rural American themes in an aggressive rejection of European Abstraction.
Wood along with John Steuart Curry and Thomas Hart Benton were the 3 most involved in the movement.
Wood's work was marketed through Associated American Artists in New York for many years.
Wood is considered the patron artist of Cedar Rapids, and his childhood country school is depicted on the 2004 Iowa State Quarter.

5. Reflection
I chose Grant Wood as my artist because he was very intersting to me. He had a voice in history and everyone has seen his artwork “American Gothic” which is about the Great Depression. I really like Mr. Wood he seemed like a big American and he was born a while back to where we consider them true Patriots. Personally I liked his painting because it describes how bad and how unhappy the people were during the great depression.
